For many enthusiastic snow sports athletes, the first day of skiing in the new season is a sobering experience, because the euphoric images in your mind are not in harmony with the reality of skiing. The reason for this is that our expectations of our own skills are too great and after not skiing for eight months, these skills (obviously) are different from the performances in the last descents in the previous winter. Not even the most conscientious physical preparation can compensate for the remaining inner images of ski technique and bring them from the depths of memory again.

The only thing to help this situation is concentration on the basic technique of skiing, coupled with a significant reduction in skiing speed, supported by simple exercises to activate the feeling for gliding and to aid recall of the basic elements of skiing technique. With the help of a ski instructor or trainer you acquire the feel for fine steering, or fine coordination can be developed once more and picked up again, where you left off last winter.
